The aim of International Development Cooperation by the Republic of Slovenia is to contribute to the eradication of poverty, the reduction of inequality and the promotion of sustainable development in the social, economic and environmental sector in partner countries. With International Development Cooperation, the Republic of Slovenia contributes to a more balanced and equitable global development and assumes co-responsibility for the eradication of poverty and the achievement of sustainable development. For this purpose, the calls for development projects, implemented by NGOs and local partners are announced for specific implementation period.

The project »Women beekeepers as drivers of positive change in North Macedonia« implemented by ADRA Slovenia with local partner ADRA North Macedonia and other external partners aims to achieve results in two main areas, namely: 1) reducing gender inequality through women’s empowerment and 2) promoting and developing rural areas through the promotion of sustainable organic beekeeping and local marketing of bee products. The project is being implemented between 15.4.2023 and 15.10.2025. The rationale of the project is that the achievement of project objectives and results will lead to rural development, localization of food production through self-sustainable beekeeping and contribute to reducing the abandonment of rural villages by creating new opportunities for women and encouraging young people to take up new forms of employment. This will help reduce the gender gap in domestic work and financial capabilities and enable women and girls to fulfill their aspirations.

Specific goal of the project

Economic empowerment of 50 women in the Northeastern and Vardar regions of North Macedonia through organic beekeeping.

50 women in the Northeastern and Vardar regions of North Macedonia gain knowledge and basic equipment for organic beekeeping along with the knowledge on marketing of bee products. 75% of the women beneficiaries gain knowledge in the area of economic potential of beekeeping for small scale beekeepers.
